Wikimed is an offline medical application that runs on Android. It contains 50,000+ medical articles from Wikipedia, is available in 10 languages and is completely free. It is particularly popular in the Indian subcontinent, particularly with medical students who can't afford books or healthcare workers in rural areas.

Lernstick Winterthur

Die Stadt Winterthur hat alle 7'500 SchülerInnen der Unter- und Mittelstufe mit dem Lernstick, einer in der Schweiz entwickelten mobilen Open-Source-Lernumgebung, ausgerüstet. Bei diesem Projekt wurden personelle und finanzielle Ressourcen zur Weiterentwicklung einiger Open-Source-Projekte bereitgestellt.

OpenStreetMap Longterm Contributors

OpenStreetMap, kurz OSM, ist in der Schweiz seit Jahren mit der OSM Gemeinschaft und dem Verein Swiss OpenStreetMap Association, kurz SOSM, sehr aktiv im Erfassen und Aufbereiten von Geo-Daten sowie dem Zugang zu diesen und deren Präsentation im Web. Diese Daten stehen der Allgemeinheit gemäss den OSM Lizenzbedingungen zur freien und uneigeschränkten Verfügung. Stellvertretend für diese Community werden die langjährigen aktiven Mitglieder Simon Poole, Michael Spreng und Stefan Keller für den Award nominiert.

The worlds 1st Ethereum funded movie - eMovieVenture

On Ethereums 1st birthday in July 2016 Scenic Swisscoast GmbH decided to build a Ethereum use case that would bring blockchain technology from the geeky early adopters closer to mainstream consumers. A full feature cinema movie was funded with a 3 phase ICO, a ticketing system was developed and an movie-ecosystem that fosters decentralized, low-budget independent movie making processes has been set up. The movie will be out in 2018 but before that there will be a voting process that defines which will be the next project to be produced in the framework of eMovieVenture.

Iridium Browser

A browser securing your privacy: The Iridium Browser is based on the Chromium code base. All modifications enhance the privacy of the user and make sure that the latest and best secure technologies are used. Automatic transmission of partial queries, keywords, metrics to central services is prevented and only occurs with the approval of the user. In addition, all our builds are reproducible and modifications are auditable, setting the project ahead of other secure browser providers.

OWASP ModSecurity Core Rule Set (Short: CRS)

The CRS is dubbed "The 1st Line of Defense". It is a generic blacklisting ruleset to be used on a ModSecurity or compatible Web Application Firewall. It is a collection of over 150 ModSecurity rules aimed to block SQL injections, cross site scripting and other well-known attacks.

Individuals: Christian Folini

Christian Folini is an educated medieval historian working as a security engineer and open source enthusiast. He holds a PhD in medieval history and enjoys defending castles across Europe. Unfortunately, defending medieval castles is no big business anymore and Christian turned to defending web servers which he thinks equally challenging. With his background in humanities, Christian is able to bridge the gap between techies and non-techies. He brings more than ten years' experience in this role, specializing in Apache / ModSecurity configuration, DDoS defense and threat modeling.

Swisscom Mailer

The Swisscom mailer is a web-based email management system that is easy to use and integrates with existing user databases and Event Management App (KIME). It allows the user to send out bulk emails to specific user groups. It is a custom solution hosted inhouse in Switzerland - independent of existing US based hosted newsletter distribution services.

APPUiO is the Swiss container platform created by developers for developers. APPUiO is based on the next generation PaaS Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. Open-Data-Plattform öV Schweiz

Die Fahrplan-Angaben und Echtzeit-Informationen zum öffentlichen Verkehr (öV) in der Schweiz sind seit 2. Dezember 2016 auf einer neuen Plattform verfügbar. Sie wurde von der SBB im Auftrag des Bundes erstellt. Die Daten ermöglichen es sowohl den Transportunternehmen als auch Unternehmen von ausserhalb der Transportbranche, neue Kundeninformationssysteme, neue Apps oder andere Anwendungen für die Information der Reisenden zu entwickeln. Das Bundesamt für Verkehr (BAV) hat die SBB als Systemführerin damit beauftragt, eine Open-Data-Plattform für den gesamten Schweizer öV aufzubauen und zu betreiben. Die Open-Data-Plattform öV Schweiz stellt alle von den beteiligten konzessionierten Transportunternehmen gelieferten Fahrplandaten sowie die aktuelle und die erwartete Verkehrslage des öffentlichen Verkehrs in Echtzeit zur Verfügung. Nutzer sind Unternehmen und Startups, welche die Daten aufbereiten und Kundeninformationen für Reisende zusammenstellen. Im Sinne der bundesrätlichen "Open-Data"-Strategie und als Beitrag bei der Umsetzung der Strategie "Digitale Schweiz" des UVEK sollen Innovationen durch die Privatwirtschaft erleichtert und gefördert werden.

Stadt Bern mit Ki-Tax

Mit der Lösung Ki-Tax wird durchgängig der gesamte Betreuungsgutscheinprozess in der Stadt Bern – von der Beantragung eines Betreuungsgutscheins durch die Gesuchsteller über die Ausstellung des Betreuungsgutscheins (Vergünstigung) bis zur Zahlungsabwicklung mit den Kindertagesstätten – unterstützt. Die Software wird als Open Source Software veröffentlicht werden.

Jedi is a static analysis tool for Python that can be used in IDEs/editors. Its historic focus is autocompletion, but does static analysis for now as well. Jedi is fast and is very well tested. It understands Python on a deeper level than all other static analysis frameworks for Python.

 Firstnames of Switzerland - an open data web-application

The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) has not only collected the first names since 1902, but also provided them with an interactive tool to the population. However, the popular first name search is now only available as an Excel file because of savings and a new website of the FSO.

The company snowflake productions gmbh, specializing in web solutions, decided to bring back to life the interactive database «first names in Switzerland». It allows queries on the frequency of first names in the living population of Switzerland. The statistical data of the population and households (STATPOP 2015) provided by the FSO serves as a data source.
